The Buni Yade Foundation, an Abuja-based non-governmental organization (NGO), is committed to offering educational and health assistance to vulnerable children, with a specific focus on those residing in internally displaced persons (IDP) camps. Our foundation diligently works to empower these children by providing them with access to high-quality education and comprehensive healthcare services. Our ultimate goal is to pave the way for a brighter future, breaking the cycle of poverty and equipping these children with the necessary tools to flourish. About Buni Yadi Foundation...

*Criminal Justice Education, Advocacy, and Policy Development* Led by Barrister Niyi Ayoola-Daniels and the Foundation’s Founders, this facet involves educating, Nigerian students about the criminal and juvenile justice systems. Niyi, during the 2023 Review of the Implementation of The Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), 2015 & Administration of Criminal justice Law of States, shared his personal experience as a teenager in Buni Yadi area court, Yobe state and offered some recommendation. The Foundations initiatives aim to Inform students and other Nigerian citizens about law enforcement agencies, the court, and correctional facilities.

*Prison Decongestion Initiative* Recognizing inmates’ challenges in paying fines leading to overcrowded correctional facilities, the Foundation collaborates with various bodies to facilitate the release of eligible inmates. For instance, in 2015, a joint effort with the Federal ministry of Justice and Justice Ishaq Bello’s presidential Committee on Correctional centers Reform and Decongestion, resulted in the release of 19 inmates covered by the Federal ministry of Justice, 3 by the Buni Yadi Foundation, and 2 by Policy Vault Africa. Additionally, acknowledging elderly inmate’s hardships, the Foundation aided the release of 7 individuals due to their age.

*Support for Access to Justice Programs for Vulnerable Children* Representatives of the Foundation were actively involved in the justice for Children Coordination Forum, an EU-UNICEF program supporting access to justice for children on the move and other vulnerable children. Chaired by the solicitor General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Justice, this form includes representatives from various government ministries like Women Affairs, Education, and Health. Other notable members encompass institutions such as Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, National Human Rights Commision, and the Nigerian Police Force. Furthermore, the forum integrates international organizations like UNODC, UNDP, UNICEF, ILO, IOM, and OHCR, along with national legal bodies such as NBA (The National Bar Association), National Judiciary Institute, NIALS (Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies), and FIDA, to collectively address access to justice for vulnerable children.

*Training Initiative for Law Enforcement Agencies (Police/Prosecutors) and Judge* The Foundation is actively seeking to support training programs for police officers in Nigeria’s northeast region, along with judges from lower courts handling the majority of criminal cases. Emphasizing the pivotal role played by judges in are, shariah, customary, and magistrate courts, often dealing with a high caseload, the Foundation aims to equip them with enhanced skills and knowledge. This training aims to foster compliance among police officers with human rights principles and criminal justice laws in the northeast zone. Key focus area includes proper procedures during arrest, detention, prevention of torture, and reduction of prolonged trials leading to extended periods in custody for individuals awaiting trial. Additionally, the Foundation recognizes the vital role of Continuing Legal Education (CLE) for Judges, emphasizing its significance in elevating professional ethics, fostering greater responsibility, and broadening legal Knowledge essential for effective discharge of Judicial duties.

Our soup kitchen provides regular nourishing meals to IDP camp children, addressing nutrition and food insecurity. Access to nutritious meals enhances well-being and promotes health, making a positive impact on their lives by ensuring basic sustenance in a structured manner.
